PEEK-CF is carbon-fibre-filled PEEK. Makers sell it for demanding uses in aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, and for dynamically stressed parts. Its HDT at 0.45 MPa is 265 °C, above its glass transition. On the H2C it is kept for reference only, because every nozzle window its makers publish asks for more heat than the H2C gives, most accepting 450–460 °C.

Partly documented HDT at 0.45 MPa rests on 1 product, tensile modulus (XY) on 3 products, tensile strength (XY) on 4 products, tensile strength (Z) and price are not published and notched Charpy impact is published only on test bars no document describes as printed. Each figure is the median of the products that publish it comparably, and beside it the middle half of them; a value on a test bar no document describes as printed, or with no stated test load, is set apart, except a heat deflection of a plastic that cannot crystallise, which its glass transition sets, unless its document points to a moulded or resin bar.

Among the materials

Against PPA-CF, PEEK-CF is 32 % stiffer and 10 % stronger flat. Against PPS-CF, PEEK-CF is 37 % stronger flat and 26 % stiffer. Among the materials, PEEK-CF has a high tensile modulus (XY), tensile strength (XY), HDT at 0.45 MPa and density, and a low elongation at break (XY): each is in the top or bottom quarter of the materials that publish it.

Against its alternatives, PEEK-CF has the highest tensile modulus, tensile strength and HDT at 0.45 MPa

How the numbers are worked out

Mechanical properties

Printed flat (XY), PEEK-CF typically reaches a tensile strength of 119 MPa at a modulus of 10.1 GPa, and breaks at 2.7 % elongation. In bending, its flexural strength is typically 141 MPa at a flexural modulus of 9.75 GPa.

PEEK-CF's products spread most in tensile strength: the middle half runs 110–137 MPa
