PPA-GF is glass-fibre-filled polyphthalamide. Makers sell it for end-use automotive, aerospace and electronics parts. Semicrystalline, it carries light load well above its glass transition, and its HDT at 0.45 MPa is 196 °C. On the H2C every product needs a hardened nozzle, makers advise drying at 80–140 °C, 4–12 h, and some ask for more chamber heat than the H2C gives.

Partly documented Price rests on 1 product, tensile strength (Z) on 2 products, tensile modulus (XY), tensile strength (XY) and HDT at 0.45 MPa on 3 products each and notched Charpy impact is not published. Each figure is the median of the products that publish it comparably, and beside it the middle half of them; a value on a test bar no document describes as printed, or with no stated test load, is set apart, except a heat deflection of a plastic that cannot crystallise, which its glass transition sets, unless its document points to a moulded or resin bar.

Among the materials

Against PPA-CF, PPA-GF is 14 % less stiff and 7 % weaker flat, and its HDT at 0.45 MPa is 24 °C lower. Against PA6-CF, PPA-GF is 50 % stiffer, 43 % stronger flat and 20 % stronger across the layers. Among the materials, PPA-GF has a high tensile modulus (XY), tensile strength (XY), tensile strength (Z) and HDT at 0.45 MPa, and a low elongation at break (XY): each is in the top or bottom quarter of the materials that publish it. Its density and price sit in the middle half.

PPA-GF is stronger across the layers than PA6-CF, PPS-CF and PAHT-CF but costs less than PPA-CF, PA6-CF and PPS-CF and others

What makers say about printing it

Nozzle wear

  • Using abrasion resistance nozzle, as hardened steel and above grade nozzle is highly recommended. Raise3D Industrial PPA GF, data sheet, p. 2

Printing advice

More from makers: warping and shrinkage, supports and removal, moisture sensitivity, adhesion between layers and odour and emissions

Warping and shrinkage

  • After annealing, max. 0.5% dimensional shrinkage could be observed in Z-axis depending on infill and layer height, no obvious dimensional shrinkage in XY-axis. Raise3D Industrial PPA GF, data sheet, p. 2

Supports and removal

  • If PPA GF is used as the support material for itself, please remove the support structure after annealing. Raise3D Industrial PPA GF, data sheet, p. 2

Moisture sensitivity

  • After drying, we recommend to store PPA GF filament into Raise3D Filament Dry Box during the printing. Raise3D Industrial PPA GF, data sheet, p. 2

Adhesion between layers

  • As a result, Hyper Core PPA GF25 offers not only higher Z-direction strength, smoother surface quality, but also, and above all, higher performance-cost ratio and a wide range of color options. Raise3D Hyper Core PPA GF25, data sheet, p. 1
