ABS-AF is aramid-fibre-filled ABS. Makers sell it for lighter, fibre-reinforced parts that are easier to print, and stress its dimensional stability and low warping. Its glass transition is 110 °C. On the H2C it prints at 250–270 °C, and a maker recommends a ruby or hardened nozzle while another calls the fibre less abrasive than carbon or glass.

Among the materials

Aramid fibre lowers ABS's HDT at 0.45 MPa by 7 °C: ABS-AF's HDT at 0.45 MPa is 88 °C against 95 °C. Against ABS-CF, ABS-AF's HDT at 0.45 MPa is about the same: 88 °C against 90 °C. Among the materials, ABS-AF has a high notched Charpy impact and a low tensile strength (XY) and density: each is in the top or bottom quarter of the materials that publish it. The rest of its key properties sit in the middle half.

Against its alternatives, ABS-AF has the lowest tensile modulus and tensile strength

More from makers: warping and shrinkage, adhesion between layers and odour and emissions

Warping and shrinkage

  • Low warping when printing (even less than with carbon fiber composites) Nanovia ABS AF, data sheet, p. 1
  • The applied modifications led to reduced shrinkage, excellent adhesion to work platforms and reduced material density, which means that the printed elements are slightly lighter than their counterparts made with standard ABS. Spectrum ABS Kevlar, data sheet, p. 1
  • Thanks to the aramid fibers Nanovia ABS AF allows for excellent 3D printing properties with limited warping and a great bed adhesion. Nanovia ABS AF, data sheet, p. 1
  • The aramid fibers assuring dimensional stability ,preventing the printed object to warp and even make the printed object lighter than regular ABS . 3D4Makers ABSKevlar, maker's product page or guide, p. 1
  • No shrinkage / dimensional stability. 3D4Makers ABSKevlar, maker's product page or guide, p. 1
  • Low Warping. 3D4Makers ABSKevlar, maker's product page or guide, p. 1
