PP-CF is carbon-fibre-filled polypropylene. A maker sells it for light components exposed to the elements, such as nautical equipment and mechanical automotive parts. Being semicrystalline, it carries light load well above its glass transition: its HDT at 0.45 MPa is 124–158 °C. On the H2C it prints at 240–255 °C and needs a hardened nozzle, and a maker warns that common bed adhesives will not hold polypropylene.
Partly documented Price rests on 1 product, notched Charpy impact and HDT at 0.45 MPa on 2 products each, tensile modulus (XY) and tensile strength (XY) on 3 products each and tensile strength (Z) is not published. Each figure is the median of the products that publish it comparably, and beside it the middle half of them; a value on a test bar no document describes as printed, or with no stated test load, is set apart, except a heat deflection of a plastic that cannot crystallise, which its glass transition sets, unless its document points to a moulded or resin bar.

Among the materials
Against PP-GF, PP-CF is 39 % stiffer, 36 % tougher in notched impact and 22 % weaker flat. Against PA12-CF, PP-CF is 86 % stiffer, 45 % less tough in notched impact and 37 % weaker flat. Among the materials, PP-CF has a high tensile modulus (XY) and price, and a low elongation at break (XY) and density: each is in the top or bottom quarter of the materials that publish it. The rest of its key properties sit in the middle half.
Against its alternatives, PP-CF has the highest tensile modulus
How does it compare with what an engineer would buy instead?
- PP-CF: its products' median and middle half
- an alternative
- lowest to highest
- each material's median (top row)
- set apart: test bar not described as printed, or no stated load
- beyond the scale
Each row is a material, each column a property: the bar is the middle half of a material's products, the tick their median, the hairline their lowest to highest; the ticks above the rows are every material's median.

What makers say about printing it
Printing advice
In order for the film/tape to not unstick, a lower bed temperature is recommended.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1Traditional bed adhesive solutions used for PLA and ABS (such as blue tape, glue sticks, hair spray) will not properly adhere PP to the built plate.
Braskem FL900PP-CF, data sheet, p. 1The brim is recommended to improve the adhesion of the edges and corners of the object.
Prusa Research Prusament PP Carbon Fiber by Prusa Polymers, data sheet, p. 1In the case of bed adhesion issues, it’s recommended to either use a “raft” or a polypropylene bed.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1The latter can be achieved by applying polypropylene film/tape to the printer bed.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1
Moisture sensitivity
FL900PP-CF provides engineering level performance without compromising any of PP’s inherent properties which include light weight, water resistance (no drying needed), chemical resistance, and impact resistance.
Braskem FL900PP-CF, data sheet, p. 1Low moisture absorption, typically does not require drying prior to use
3DXTECH CarbonX CF PP, maker's product page or guide, p. 1Moisture may lead to smearing and in extreme cases to foaming.

Nozzle wear
Nozzle Size (Material) mm ≥0.6 (Hardened Nozzle)
Braskem FL900PP-CF, data sheet, p. 1A reinforced nozzle, suitable for abrasive materials is recommended.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1A hardened nozzle is necessary.

Uses, limitations and chemicals
What it is sold for
Polypropylene is a semi-rigid material, with high wear and shock resistance, notably used for hinges and components that endure regular flexing.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1Humidity proof, it’s perfectly suited for both outdoor and high stress industral applications.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1Thanks to polypropylene’s close to zero water absorption rate, high chemical resistance, low density, and a native UV, Nanovia PP CF is ideal for light components exposed to the elements which require a high dimensional stability such as nautical equipment and mechanical automotive parts.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1
What makers warn about
Much like polyamide (nylon), polypropylene gradually becomes more flexible with higher temperatures.
Nanovia PP CF, data sheet, p. 1The product is not approved for medical applications.
Nanovia PP CF, safety data sheet, p. 2
