PEBA is a polyether block amide, a thermoplastic elastomer. Makers sell it for protective gear, phone cases, shoe outsoles and sports equipment, and a maker cites its high energy return. Printed flat it reaches a tensile strength of 30 MPa and breaks at 1,050 % elongation. On the H2C it prints without chamber heat, and makers advise drying it, a maker thoroughly before every print.

Partly documented Tensile modulus (XY), tensile strength (Z) and price rest on 1 product each and notched Charpy impact is not published. Each figure is the median of the products that publish it comparably, and beside it the middle half of them; a value on a test bar no document describes as printed, or with no stated test load, is set apart, except a heat deflection of a plastic that cannot crystallise, which its glass transition sets, unless its document points to a moulded or resin bar. Products with an added filler or additive are shown but kept out of the medians.

Among the materials

Against TPU 95A class, PEBA's tensile strength (XY) is about the same: 30 MPa against 29 MPa. Against TPU 85A class and softer, PEBA is 36 % stronger flat. Among the materials, PEBA has a high elongation at break (XY) and a low tensile modulus (XY), tensile strength (XY), tensile strength (Z) and density: each is in the top or bottom quarter of the materials that publish it. Its price sits in the middle half.

Against its alternatives, PEBA has the highest price and the lowest tensile strength (Z)

Printing advice

  • Print the first layer slower (e.g., 15-20mm/s) and slightly hotter (e.g., +5°C on nozzle) for best adhesion. Siraya Tech Rebound PEBA 95A, data sheet, p. 1

What makers warn about

Finish and accuracy
  • Briefly applying heat (e.g., heat gun on low setting, very quick pass with a torch flame) can sometimes smooth surfaces or reduce fuzziness, but exercise extreme caution to avoid melting or burning the part. Siraya Tech Rebound PEBA 95A, data sheet, p. 1
  • The material has great optical properties, gloss, and transparency. Fillamentum Flexfill PEBA 90A, data sheet, p. 1
